Saving Energy & Money, a mistake that will cost you £1000’s

Every household in the UK still spends on average £300 per year on lighting their home. However that cost could be as little as £30, that’s an incredible saving of £270 per year and all you have to do is make one simple change, switch to LED light bulbs.

The initial cost of the bulbs

Your biggest mistake would be to ignore the facts so whatever you do, don’t be put off by the initial cost of the bulbs this will only set you back and deter you from the massive savings waiting for you to enjoy. The price of LED bulbs still average around £8-£9 but with the savings on your electricity bill you will see pay back within 6 months.

The down sides to LED’s?

Well as far as I can see there are none, it’s a no brainer.

  • More energy efficient
  • Much cheaper to run
  • Last longer
  • Environmentally  friendly

The early forms of LED bulbs were described as dull and cold, but the new super-efficient versions with angled light are also now available in different colours to suit different needs, making this downside redundant.

The cost to run the average 60w bulb per year would be £18-20, so times this by the amount of bulbs you have in your home. The equivalent LED bulb would cost £1.50-£2, so the savings are considerable, around 85%.

The average life span of a traditional bulb would be 1-2 years compared with 30,000 hour use of an LED bulb, making the average life span 12-15 years.

Compared to traditional bulbs including the energy saving CFL’s they are much kinder to the environment as you won’t have to replace them as often, and in the case of CFL’s you should dispose of them in a controlled manner as they contain mercury. Unlike the CFL bulbs LED’s are an instant light, you won’t have to wait for them to warm up.

So now all you have to do is decide on the wattage, the fitting, the colour, whether you want a warm light a cool daylight or something in between. Note down what you already have and take this along to your supplier, lake renewable energy, and they’ll be able to help you out.

Then once you’ve fitted them sit back and start thinking of the great money saving decision you’ve made and how you’re going to enjoy spending it.
