What is a Battery ?
A battery is a portable energy source that produces electrons through a chemical reaction.
A battery is made up of three basic components - a cathode, an anode and an electrolyte.
Cathode: The positive portion of the battery.
Anode: The negative portion of the battery.
Electrolyte: A liquid solution that aids in the flow of energy.
The electrons collect on the negative terminal of the battery. When a connection is made between the positive and the negative terminals of the battery the electrons flow between the terminals.
Measuring your battery condition
When measuring a battery condition ensure that the battery is at rest - no input/output. (for at least 3 hours)
Connect a volt meter between the battery terminals. using the table below check the voltage to determine your battery state .
Please note this table will determine the state of the battery when the battery has been at rest for > 3 hours and the battery temperature is 77 deg F , if the battery is at a lower temperature a lower voltage reading will be obtained .

1.265 = 100% Charged.
1.239 = 75% Charged.
1.200 = 50% Charged
1.170 = 25% Charged
1.110 = Discharged fully

Wiring Batteries
Batteries can either be wired in series or parallel.
Wiring in series
This is the method used when connecting batteries together to increase the Volts only. Series wiring is connecting the positive terminal of one battery to the negative terminal of another.
Joining two 12 volt batteries rated at 100 amp hours in this method would give you 24V rated at 100 amp hours.
Series wiring increases voltage but NOT amp/hour capacity
Wiring in Parallel
This is the method used when connecting batteries together to increase the amps only. Parallel wiring is connecting the positive terminal of one battery to the positive terminal of another and the same with the negative terminals.
Joining two 12 volt batteries rated at 100 amp hours in this method would give you 12V rated at 200 amp hours.
Parallel wiring increases the amp/hour capacity but NOT the Voltage
